1. INTERNATIONAL ACABION ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION

11 Sep

overview- it#s the start of an open network…

Architecture is defined as a contextual integrated system. AACLB announces its first international competition to enhance the knowledge of advanced architectural design towards an architecture of bionics and integrated systems within an inevitable complex context. The competition offers entries within a number of categories.

With the competition we are looking to start an open source network on bionics in design. So it is not a one-off competition but rather the start of an open platform.

Acabion stands for evolution, innovation, sustainability, research and humanity. Acabion Architecture focuses on highly performative design inspired by nature, technology and the basics of living. We are looking at design proposals which do not impose but value our basic human desires now and in future., we think evolutionary and not revolutionary.  Therefore we are looking at contributions using software packages that take into account issues such as environmental powers, swarm intelligence, parametrics beauty and culture specific wisdom. We welcome all contributions subscribing to those parameters.

In July 2010 Tactile Architecture was asked to act as architects for the project development of  „Acabion Architecture and Transport Hubs“. We gladly took on the task without fees and collaborated with Acabion and Werkstatt für innovation in Berlin. As ACABION ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION LAB BERLIN we envisage ideas and solutions for Acabion on a local and global level.

CAR WAS YESTERDAY. ACABION IS TOMORROW.

The Acabion is „The first official certified Successor of Cars“ and winner of the future award 2008. We are convinced, that Acabion Technology is more than merely a car. Acabion Architecture Lab encourages all kinds of submissions ranging from architecture via urban planning and fashion design to material technology.

context

Currently we are living a transport system which is clumsy in appearance and frittering away valuable natural resources. Architecture, design, engineering and material technology have the chance to change  our hardly performative infrastructural system. We could travel from Berlin to London or Paris within one hour using a fragment of the energy currently used, when applying Acabion technology and bionicly driven design throughout. Acabion works on existing streets and will be complemented by skyways and high speed tunnels. We are not trying to save our world, but are mainly looking for the application of advanced architectural design as research platform with a slight chance to manifest this in near future. It’s your chance to design an intercontinental vacuum tube…

criteria

The evaluation of AACLB will focus on integrated design proposals using intelligent digital tools. We know that so far architecture borrows from sciences. Your proposals should integrate sciences and not act as a pseudo science applied to architecture. AACLB is not interested in “playing with shapes” but enforces contextual and performance driven forms and materials. Perfectionism and beauty is a crucial requirement.
